Comedian & Podcaster Slade Ham.

Comedian Slade Ham and I met in Kuwait City when we filmed our “I Am Battle Comic” documentary.  Eyes on the Ground is Slade’s new podcast series focusing on various aspects of being an artist in the modern world. A 20 year veteran stand-up comedian, Slade has performed in 54 countries on six continents. Most of these shows were for U.S. Troops stationed abroad.

Originally, this was to be a short interview to promote his show, but we ended up chatting and I think you’ll enjoy it. Click the name of the show and it may or may not take you to his interview of me.

How Going Off The Grid Improved My Filmmaking.

By going off the grid for just 72 hours, I returned with a fresh attitude towards my work. Look folks, I love the hustle and thrive off it, but clearly I needed a reminder that human connection is vital to a rich, fulfilling life. My lovely and talented wife, filmmaker Jeannette Godoy, showed her film “Free 2 Be Me” to open the Esalen Inspirational Film Festival this week. They also screened “I Am Battle Comic”, so that is always fun. But with no cellular service nor internet, we got to reconnect, have meaningful conversations with other filmmakers about their projects, and just chat with total strangers from all walks of life.

It’s easy to get swept away online, and get lost in work, so please take time to be present every now and then, and connect with your fellow humans.

Enjoy.

How To Avoid Filmmaker Burnout.

A good filmmaker friend, who like me is always shooting and always pitching for the next gig, asked me how I avoid burning out. My answer is simple.. shoot and edit more. But what if you are getting burnt from trying, hitting a wall because you are not shooting or pitching enough? Don’t give up… do this. Listen.

If you’re ever in a bad place, you can always hit me up.

Truly,

Jordan

Comedian Jeff Capri Shares His Feelings About Performing For Our U.S. Military Overseas.

Comedian Jeff Capri, one of my dear comedy brothers from “I Am Battle Comic”, tells us about doing shows for our US Troops. He’s LOL hilarious and has traveled the world, so we chat about how shows changed since the war began after 9/11 and the important relief the comedy shows give our men and women who serve. Jeff is the prodigal son of legendary comic Dick Capri. How was that growing up? Going to the Catskills and hanging late at the Friars Club?

How “I Am Battle Comic” Theatrical Premiere Raised Money For MilitaryFamily.org.

The World Premiere of “I Am Battle Comic” was a smashing success, thanks to the fine citizens of Detroit. Especially the advertising community, as creatives and producers came out in droves. Collaboration And Communication Are Key For Comedy Director Tom DeCerchio.

I’m a longtime fan of comedy Director Tom DeCerchio, so it was great to sit down and chat on this episode. We share a love for communication and holding the pre-pre production meeting so all are on the same page. Tom tells the tale of being a young copywriter and how that informs him as a filmmaker.

Mixing Audio for Commercials vs. “I Am Battle Comic” w Re-Recording Mixer Scott Burns.

Scott Burns is an excellent Sound Mixer who re-records sound for commercials. Technically, a re-recording mixer or audio engineer, so many titles. Scott helped me with my upcoming documentary “I Am Battle Comic”. Scott works at onoe of LA’s most reputable sound houses, Juice Studio. In this interview, he gives us great insight into his career, how he operates, and how my movie was a different beast than a Lexus spot. Scott, who studied sound & film at USC, loves sharing his vast knowledge.

I really enjoyed my chat with my new pal Scott and you will too. Shout out to his Producer Vanessa Carey, and his Executive Producer Dawn Redmann for making the movie mix a reality.

I’m fresh off my stand-up comedy tour of the Middle East. We performed for the troops in Kuwait, Afghanistan and the Kingdom of Bahrain. Crazy times with four hilarious comedians that I now call my brothers. I also shot a documentary by myself whilest on this tour. And sure, I could have taken an Alexa mini, Red-Epic-Dragon-Platinum whatever or even a new Sony mirrorless thingy, but I chose a simple Handycam. Yup. Got her at Best Buy. Furthermore, despite the 4K option, I decided at the last minute to “fuck the 4K” the save the ones and zeros by shooting good ol’ 1080.

It’s just me rambling, and I’ll be back with interviews before you know it. Super excited from filming this once in a lifetime experience, and now to jump off the cliff into editing. Check out my comic pals Don Barnhart, Jeff Capri, Bob Kubota and Slade Ham. You’ll be happy.
