Docu Filmmaker Tommy Avallone Returns With "Waldo On Weed".

It’s always a treat to talk with director/producer/editor Tommy Avallone, (picture with Exec Producer Whoopie Goldberg) this time via Skype due to social distancing. Waldo On Weed tells the story about Waldo James Mysterious Dwyer, a six-month old baby boy suffering from Retinoblastoma – eye cancer – in both of his eyes. Seeing their son suffer through the chemotherapy, Waldo’s parents, Brian and Danielle, searched desperately to find a way to help alleviate his pain. The solution: Cannabis. Watch it on iTunes.

Let’s hope we all get back to work soon. I know it’s a source of stress. Stay healthy and creative. I’ll be offering a Commercial Directing Masterclass online soon, chalk full of tips. And thanks – lot of folks listening to voodoo.

Thank you,

Jordan

This is 54 minutes. Commercial Directing Bootcamp is still on for June 27th, 2020 and we’ve limited the attendance to 15 filmmakers. Oso Delicious Hot Sauce is safely shipping!

Who You Gonna Call? Ghostheads! Filmmaker Tommy Avallone Returns.

Filmmaker Tommy Avallone returns to talk about his new film, “Ghostheads”, currently killing it on Netflix. We chat about how he reached out to the director of this fun documentary, Brendan Mertens (my future podcast guest) and his overall involvement. A real inspiring tale for us filmmakers.

Ghostheads are not just uber-fans of the film. They form chapters and raise money for charity, while giving each Ghosthead a sense of community. I recommend the film highly, which has interviews with key cast and crew, including Dan Aykroyd, Ivan Reitman, Ernie Hudson, Paul Feig and many more, as well as with Ghostbusters fans all over the world. Enjoy the trailer:

Jordan

PS Way too early to announce, but I’ll tell you that Commercial Directing Bootcamp is December 3rd, 2016 in Los Angeles.

This episode is one hour and four minutes.

Morgan Spurlock Explains Why He Uses His Superpowers For Good.

Connect-w-MS

My special guest is the great documentarian Morgan Spurlock, who agreed to be on the show after I stalked him in a parking lot. His films influence the way we eat (“Super-Size Me”), look at marketing (“The Greatest Movie Ever Sold”) and helped me appreciate One Direction (“This Is Us”). His CNN show “Inside Man” is a favorite of mine, and I can honestly tell you I’ve seen every movie he’s made.

We chat about his newest project “Connected”, an awesome first-person filmed series for AOL.com. He gave 6 New Yorkers each a camcorder and let them loose. The result is a weaving of their lives that reflects how we are all dealing with common emotions.

Beyond his own projects, Mr. Spurlock explains how he decided to help other filmmakers tell their stories. Just check out episodes #58 with Adam McKay and #70 with Tommy Avallone to hear how.

Enjoy. I look forward to your feedback on iTunes, jordanbrady.com (which is where you are now). Or heck, just email me at RespectTheProcessPodcast today.

“I Am Santa Claus” Documentary Director Tommy Avallone.

Santa Bear

Who’s lap is your kid sitting on? “I Am Santa Claus” is a wonderful documentary that answers that very question. From an queenly bear Santa, to WWE Champion wrestler Mick Foley, Santa’s come from varied backgrounds. My chat with Director/Producer Tommy Avallone is like two old friends gabbing about filmmaking, despite having just met online. We discuss research, how to choose who to follow, funding and everything in between.

Watch the film on Netflix or buy it from Tommy’s site, click “I Am Santa Claus”, there are many options. Here’s the trailer:
