From Documentaries & Narratives to Commercials: The Creative Journey of Filmmaker Jessica Sanders.

Jessica Altina Lee Sanders’s martial arts action comedy short “THE COCKTAIL PARTY” exploring female empowerment, premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival and won numerous international festival awards. The action packed, playful film tells the story of a cocktail party that turns into an unexpected martial arts action film. Do yourself a favor and watch her Sundance premiered short “End Of The Line.

Jessica’s first feature documentary film “After Innocence” which she directed, wrote and produced tells the moving story of innocent men wrongfully imprisoned for decades and exonerated after DNA testing proved their innocence. The film won the Sundance Special Jury Prize and numerous festival awards before being released theatrically by New Yorker Films and premiering on Showtime. It was shortlisted for the Academy Awards and became a game changer in criminal justice reform, bringing awareness and change for the wrongfully convicted.

Jessica has tons of commercials we chat about and was hand-picked by Steve Jobs to launch Apple’s Ipad. How cool is that? Here’s her creamy chocolate spot.

Acclaimed Film Producer Miranda Bailey On Producing “Don’t Think Twice”.

217cbb_531bc1867e1d4dbeab579dffc0be2716

Miranda Bailey is a prolific film producer, actress and director. Currently, she’s got two wonderful films in theaters, “Swiss Army Man” and “Don’t Think Twice”, the latter opening wide this weekend. Go see it. It stars Keegan Michael Key, Gillian Jacobs, Tami Sagher, Chris Gethard, Kate Micucci and the film’s writer/director Mike Birbiglia. It’s funny, sad, heartfelt and the best look at the world of improvisational comedy ever.

Miranda has her own production company, Cold Iron Pictures, and started a distribution company, The Film Arcade. Click the words. She’s the real deal.

The last half of our chat reveals that I am indeed an old fashioned sexist. Eye opening, as we delve into the topic of gender inequality. Truthfully, I wanted to leave that alone and just talk to Miranda as a producer, but felt it was needed so we explore and shed a little light. Enjoy the trailer, then buy tickets:

Enjoy. Share. See the film. Thank you!!

Chicago’s Commercial Directing Bootcamp will sell out. Sign up now and I’ll see you in Chicago August 13th, 2016.

A Practical Guide To Loving Acting w Actor/Writer/Director Jack Plotnick.

jack_plotnick

Jack Plotnick’s philosophy towards creativity is so spiritually aligned with my own, that I think we might have been separated at birth. I’ve directed Jack in a few commercials, marveled at his acting chops in films like “Meet The Fockers”, “Rubber” and “Gods And Monsters”. Then I discovered his directorial debut, the feature film “Space Station 76”, an intergalactic drama with comedic undertones that I love.

Jack and I chat about creating one’s own content, setting a date to make it happen, and giving yourself boundaries, a theme that’s come up on this show a few times lately. Most of all, Jack rejects the negativity that can hound us in the biz. In his words, “the world is going to rain shit down on you sometimes, but keep going cuz it’s also going to give you great gifts along your way.” Enjoy and check out “Space Station 76” on iTunes. And here’s a link to Jack’s YouTube channel.
Enjoy the trailer to “Space Station 76”.
