From Soul Pancake to Sundance with Multi-Hyphenate Josh Shelton.

Josh Shelton is a multi-hyphenate producer, writer, director and composer who has worked for Netflix, MTV, ESPN, Participant Media and more.  Shelton was nominated for an Emmy as producer on Netflix’s “We Are The Champions.” He has also been at the forefront of the digital landscape for over a decade, working with the joy-filled digital media company SoulPancake, as showrunner on a range of branded campaigns and Head of Production. In July 2023, he was hired as the lead Content Producer for the Sundance Film Festival/Sundance Institute. Go Josh!

Director-Photographer Natasha Lee Delivers Distinct Imagery for Clients and Dismantles Asian American Stereotypes in her short film.

Natasha Lee is one of my favorite photographers and I love watching her directorial career take off, bringing her refined aesthetic to film. Natasha is a Malaysian-Chinese Travel, Lifestyle & Hospitality Photographer & Director whose visuals evoke a sense of presence, of the fleeting moments that make an experience memorable. Her imagery is steeped in a sense of warmth and leisure, inviting viewers to experience new tastes, possibilities, and perspectives. Natasha was recently included in SHOOT Magazine’s 19th Annual New Director’s Showcase and was a 2021 fellow at Moving Picture Institute’s Cinematography workshop. While Noah’s injuries are mostly invisible, Eddie was hit by two 7.62mm rounds in the head rending him immobile and with a severe Traumatic Brain Injury. In an attempt to relieve financial burdens and raise money for Eddie’s recovery, Noah embarks on a 145 mile run from his hometown in Somers, CT to Eddie’s in Lake George, NY. In turning to his all civilian training partners to assist with the run, Noah’s journey exemplifies the need for community and reveals the emotional, physical, and financial struggles many veterans face today.

Filmmaker Frank Armendarez is a writer, director, and editor with my pals at Crown Chimp. The exciting conclusion to my conversation with Filmmaker Alice Gu. Alice began her career as a Director of Photography, working with renowned directors Werner Herzog, Stacy Peralta, and Rory Kennedy, among others. She was cinematographer on Take Every Wave: The Life of Laird Hamilton, a documentary directed by Academy Award-nominated director Rory Kennedy. The Donut King is Alice’s feature directorial debut and was selected to premiere in competition at SXSW 2020.

Writer/Director/Star of Slamdance Hit “The Sleeping Negro” Filmmaker Skinner Myers.

Writer/Director Skinner Myers is an award-winning filmmaker and film professor at Loyola Marymount University. Skinner wrote and directed four short films: Chimera, The Last Supper, Obscured, and Nigger, while studying film at USC School of Cinematic Arts. I reached out to Skinner after seeing “The Sleeping Negro” at Slamdance 2021. “Confronted with a series of racially charged incidents, a young black man must overcome rage, alienation, and hopelessness in order to find his own humanity.”

The writer/director says he used a “narrative/experimental” approach to filmmaking.

Skinner and I talk filmmaking, his path to directing and how he made this film, of course. Then we venture into a very real discussion of racism in America, racial inequality, and more heavy stuff that needs to be discussed. I know you’ll appreciate Skinner’s POV.
