Comic Actor and Improvisational Wizard Pat Finn Plays To The Whistle.

Improvisational genius/comic actor Pat Finn is on this very special episode! Pat and I have been collaborating together for almost 20 years making on Valley Toyota spots, and it’s always a blast. Agency folks always like casting actors that can improv, but Pat is next level. And he happens to be the one of the top three nicest humans in Hollywood. From sitcoms “Seinfeld” and “The Middle” to films “It’s Complicated” and more, Pat Finn creates memorable characters on screen and a lasting impression in person.

Pat shares hilarious stories, like sneaking into an improv class at Second City with Chris Farley. You’ll learn what it’s like to work with this comedic genius up close. Directors, take notes because Pat gives some great advice for us on how to get the most out of improvisors.. Even after all these years in the business, I’m still learning from Mr. Finn. So whether you’re an aspiring actor, seasoned director or just love a good laugh, this is an interview you don’t want to miss.

Here’s one of a few hundred spots Pat & I have done for Valley Toyota and our Lane Terralever friends.

Commercial Actor/Director David Lautman Charts His Own Course For Success.

Whenever he’s shooting a commercial, actor David Lautman spends his time between takes studying every crew member’s job and how she or he does it. This film school by astute observation, combined with his infectious personality has helped David branch into directing. What a great perspective we get from a working actor! David adn chat about writing our own stuff to shoot, doing those Tongal contest spots and the importance of not waiting for the golden ticket. I love that his sketch video YouTube group was called Spoof Troupe. Here’s his current commercial acting demo reel:

How To Book National Commercials With Comedian/Actor Wayne Federman.

aspecialthing_records_063

Comedian/Actor/Writer Wayne Federman is my favorite comic, and he’s just put out his debut comedy album, The Chronicles of Federman. The box set of three CDs (also available digitally) spans his 30 plus years of unique, killer stand-up.  Judd Apatow, who writes the liner notes, says “Epic, hilarious, inspired and whimsical.” And Mr. Apatow goes on and on. Oh, and I must reveal, Wayne is also my best pal.

Wayne has acted in dozens of national commercials, with a proportionate amount of them being oddly-costumed characters. Regardless, Wayne shares his secrets on how he approaches his auditions and gets booked time and time again. We also chat about how he constructed and edited “Chronicles” himself, so plenty of tech talk here.

Here’s Wayne and Kenny Rogers for Geico:

Here’s a Toyota spot I directed Wayne in called “Charades“.
